My friend Mike Young performing his spoken word at my church. Wow! So powerful!

Life. Love. Faith.: 1 Peter 5:6-11

writtenonhisheart:

“Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you. Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. Resist him,…

Flee the evil desires of youth, and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, along with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart.
2 Timothy 2:22

Easter 2011

My father accepted Christ as Lord and savior. He has chosen to start a relationship with him! Hallelujah, praise God!!

Stained Glass

elephantwords:

“People are like stained-glass windows: They sparkle and shine when the sun is out, but when darkness sets in, their true beauty is revealed only if there is light within.”   Elizabeth Kubler-Ross

I’m spending 4/20 rolling with the Most High.

Fairytale

Ephesians 3:20

With God’s power working in us, God can do much, much more than anything we can ask or imagine.

Habakkuk 1:5

Look at the nations and watch and be utterly amazed. For I am going to do something in your days that you would not believe, even if you were told.

If you let God rule your life- your circumstances, your choices, everything- he will give you the desires of your heart. We think that if we take control, we can pick and choose what is most ideal… we know what we want, right? Wrong. God knows our hearts more than we do. He also knows what is best for us. I can say today that I am happier than I have ever been because I have learned how to give it all to God and let him rule my life! I am living a fairytale- it is nothing like I have imagined but it is even better.

Zip It

James 3: 9-10

We use our tongues to praise our Lord and Father, but then we curse people, whom God has made like himself. Praises and curses come from the same mouth!

Ephesians 4: 29

When you talk, do not say harmful things, but say what people need- words that will help others become stronger.

Yesterday, I was chatting with a man while waiting in line at Starbucks. We began talking about words, which had led him to describe a recent incident in his own life. He’d been waiting in another line where two women in front of him started bitterly denouncing the war in Iraq. Having been the commander of a military police unit in Iraq, he didn’t enjoy hearing their harsh words on a topic that they knew so little about. He had hoped that they would soon change the subject, but after a while, it became obvious that they weren’t going to stop. He then said “excuse me, ladies?” and reached down to his knees with both hands and tucked his trouser cuffs into the top of what were obviously prostheses… he had lost both of his legs in Iraq. The women turned around and fell silent.

Think twice before you speak… is what you’re saying true? Is it kind? Is it necessary? We all know that our words can pack a powerful punch. Christ describes our tongues as full of deadly poison and relentless evil. They can be used for either good or evil. Not both. Learn to tame the tongue through practice and prayer!

In todays news,

My sister has made the decision to be baptized! Praise God! Seeing God work in my family is the greatest blessing I will ever receive other than the forgiveness that God has given me.

Divine Appointment

My dad… he is wonderful. He is funny, sarcastic and insightful. He has always ran from emotions though. Growing up if I got upset about anything he refused to talk to me while I was crying or contemplating how I felt. He has always avoided God in order to avoid emotions.

Today me and the pops talked on the phone for about 3 hours. It has been a rough patch for my family recently and he has always said “God helps those who help themselves”. He has never declared a certain belief system but he leans toward agnostic. He believes there is a God who created us and this world but has left us in charge of it. I have been trying to get through to the core of my father for 5 years. Around September of last year, my father had really put his interests in my own because I was away at college… and for the first time, I was able to talk freely about God with him. Today, I talked to my dad about issues in the bible and verses that apply to his life and our present family situations. I was totally being used as a vessel for God and was saying everything I would have never even thought of saying to my father. He has never not argued back and today, he was taking everything I said to heart and was even asking me questions about God and the bible. It was amazing.

And today was the first time my dad has ever accepted my invitation to go to church with me. And the first time he has ever said to me “Well, I accept God in my life”.

A divine appointment.

The enjoyment of God is our highest happiness, and is the only happiness with which our souls can be satisfied. To go to heaven, fully to enjoy God, is infinitely better than the most pleasant accommodations here. Fathers and mothers, husbands, wives, or children, or the company of earthly friends, are but shadows; but God is the substance. These are but scattered beams, but God is the sun. These are but streams. But God is the ocean.
